TEACHING [More teaching below]

The Apostle speaks of an important ‘Epistle’- Letter. He calls this letter ‘The epistle of CHRIST’.

Hmm?

As readers of the New Testament, we would think that a letter from Christ himself would obviously be the most important of them all.

Yet- many of us are not familiar with this letter.

Over the years I have taught on some of the earlier writings of the 1st few centuries, some that never made it into our bibles.

Some of these letters were considered out and out frauds- but others were ‘real’ but the early church fathers deemed them not to meet the criteria of Canon.

Actually- I recently had to make a note on one of my videos to clarify this https://www.bitchute.com/video/kcMmN5wULmti/

http://ccoutreach87.webstarts.com/blog/post/shepherd-of-hermes-note

So- how is it possible that many believers are not familiar with the epistle of Christ himself?

OK- I’m obviously speaking about the 3rd chapter of 2nd Corinthians where Paul refers to the believers as the epistle of Christ-

2Corinthians 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

It’s interesting that he contrasts the 1st covenant [Law- 10 commandments] with the New Covenant- written upon our hearts.

2Corinthians 3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:

2Corinthians 3:8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

He shows us that when Moses received the 10 commandments that his face ‘shined’ as he came down from the mount.

The people were afraid and Moses would put a veil over his face when he spoke with the people.

Exodus 34:29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

Exodus 34:30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him.

Exodus 34:31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.

Exodus 34:32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai.

Exodus 34:33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face.

Exodus 34:34 But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded.

In this chapter [2nd Cor. 3] he tells us that the glory of this New Covenant far exceeds the glory of the Old one.

If the glory [shining on Moses face] was so strong the first time around- a covenant that would be done away in Christ-

Then how much more glorious is it to have the law of God written upon our hearts.

Yes- the apostle shows us a true mystery- the mystery of ‘Christ in you- the hope of Glory’.

Most bible students should be familiar with the story of the giving of the law.

Moses is often referred to as the Law Giver [though he actually was the ‘law receiver’].

But the experience the apostle is speaking about was not the ‘first time’ Moses received the law.

Huh?

In Exodus 32 we read of the account of Moses going up on Mount Sinai and getting the 10 commandments.

As he was coming down from the mount there was a noise in the camp- not a noise of war- but of reveling and sin.

Exodus 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

Exodus 32:2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.

Exodus 32:3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

Exodus 32:4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

Exodus 32:5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD.

Exodus 32:6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

Yes- the people had already broken the commandments- before they received them!

In anger Moses smashes the actual tablets of stone that the commandments were written on.

And God judges the people for their sin.

Exodus 32:15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.

Exodus 32:16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.

Exodus 32:17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp.

Exodus 32:18 And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.

Exodus 32:19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.

And in exodus 33 Moses seeks God- and the Lord promises he will go with them on their journey to inherit the Promised Land.

Ok- then in exodus 34- God tells Moses to take 2 MORE TABLETS of stone- come back up the mountain- and God will give Moses the 2nd set of 10 commandments.

Exodus 34:1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou brakest.

Exodus 34:2 And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning unto mount Sinai, and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount.

Exodus 34:3 And no man shall come up with thee, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount.

Exodus 34:4 And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up unto mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.

Now it is this account- this 2nd ‘giving of the covenant that the apostle speaks of.

It is THIS time that Moses face ‘shone’.

Exodus 34:28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Exodus 34:35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

Why is this significant?

I always saw these events as a type- symbol of the New Testament itself.

Jesus- with his own Blood- Establishes the New Covenant [ a SECOND one- if you will].

The covenant that is written upon our hearts.

The fact that the entire Old Testament economy was actually under a 2nd set of tablets- speaks to the reality that perfection would come- some day- in and thru a 2nd- or New Testament.

See?

And we today have the law of God written upon fleshly tables of the heart, not on tablets made of stone.

A day that the prophets said would eventually come-

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:

Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Ezekiel 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:

Ezekiel 11:20 That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

Ezekiel 36:24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

Ezekiel 36:25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Ezekiel 36:28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Yes- the apostle shows us a glorious truth- that we are in this new age of Grace.

The law itself could never change the heart of sinful man- but by the Blood of Christ, a Lamb without spot or blemish- could.

The law would now be written upon the hearts of God’s people.

So now you see- the greatest letter of the New Testament is not written with ink or pen.

No, the greatest letter is written by the Spirit of God on the hearts and minds of his people.

You are indeed the Epistle of Christ. [Some sites see here https://corpuschristioutreachministries.blogspot.com/2024/02/2-cor-3-text.html?m=0 ]
